Welcome to Mapped

Maps and data that tell a story about Maine. May also do charts. Basically: graphic data that doesn’t necessarily fall under a typical category of a newspaper (could be business sometimes, other times could be lifestyle.)

That was the pitch I sent my editor for this blog. The idea was to create a home on the site reserved solely for graphics.

I like telling and reading stories that are graphically based. I like the clarity that these media can lend to some stories.

But there’s so much data out there. I’ve lately seen a ton of maps and charts floating around the web that I just had no idea what to do with.

This is definitely a thing, I’d think. But it doesn’t fit anywhere on our site right now.

Hence, Mapped.

So what kinds of things will you find here?

Tomorrow there’ll be a literary road trip map. I’m also working on a statistical analysis of the best chocolate chip cookie in Bangor (it will be quixotic and exhaustive). There will be some important data in here as well, but I don’t want to limit it to any one topic. This blog will be all over the place.

If you see anything floating around on the web that you’d like to see on the blog, let me know. Email me or tweet at me.
